Major water leak resolved - for now!

10-04-18: In the past few days, we have had another major water leak in phase II. This one was so close to a meter stanchion, that water was actually coming out of the meter! Obviously this is very dangerous because water and electricity don't mix too well. The potential for serious injury or death on these kinds of leaks is very scary.
You may have noticed over the past year or so that all the water leaks of late have been in phase II. In almost every case it is because of poor design or lousy workmanship. As an example, the design of the system did not follow normal good industry practices. You should have the water main running near the street with lateral lines feeding from that main to each lot. Instead there is one pipe that loops from each valve to the next one. That means that the mains go under members' units which is very hard to repair if that is where the leak is. Also if the leak goes undetected for too long, a sink hole could open up under the unit which could cause major damage to a RV or park model. In many cases, the water mains are in close proximity to the electrical cables and stanchions, a clear recipe for injury.
Many of the leaks have been cause by pipe joints that were left unglued. As the ground shifts due to the weight of more and more park models and RVs, the pipes pull away opening a leak.
The board is very concerned about this situation and is exploring ideas on how to properly fix this problem. We can't risk a possible serious injury or even death to a member should another leak develop inside a meter stanchion.
We do need to express our thanks to our Caretaker Tom who gave up his days off to work on leak. We are lucky to have someone as our caretaker who doesn't just punch a clock, but actually sacrifices his own time to fix these kinds of problems.
Tom was aided by volunteer members Orville Aas, Mike Rogers, Larry Bergstrom and Ben Berry. Technical consultant Earl Miller was on hand to lend support. Thanks Volunteers! This effort started last Saturday and was finally wrapped up today, Thursday.
