Safari Update 06/14/23
THANKS
This week we thank all of you who have been working on your lots. A number of you have commented to board members about how much better the park looks and how folks are not only just cleaning up the lots, but adding gravel, landscaping, etc. So, thanks to all of you for making the great effort. People are noticing your improvements and like what they see.
JULY 4th PARADE
Once again, this year, we will be having the July 4th parade around the park. If you have a golf cart, bicycle, or similar conveyance, decorate it up and join the fun. We will also have our hayride as a part of the parade, so you can participate in the parade by riding the hayride. Participants and hay riders will gather at the lodge at 9:30 am. We will start the parade at 10am and will visit every street in the park.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN RIDING ON THE HAYRIDE, please send me an email at president@safari-ilwaco.org with your name and site number and the number of persons you will be bringing. If you require assistance getting to the hayride, indicate that also and we will arrange a golf cart to pick you up and take you home. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
REMINDER
Safari rules prohibit smoking in any Safari buildings.
SAFARI DAYS
Yes, it is time to start planning for Safari Days for the Labor Day weekend. If you missed it last year, you missed some great events. Tammie Ohrman is coordinating the event this year and is looking for folks to volunteer to help out. With your help, you can help us make Safari Days even better this year. Please contact Tammie at (505) 252-8940 to get details and sign up.
REPLACING METERS
John Landry and Ben Berry will be going to each site that has the old mechanical meters for electricity and replacing them with the new digital meters. This will require a brief (5-10) minute interruption of your power while they make the swap. Once they are done, you may notice a slight increase in your next electric bill because many of the old meters were either underreporting or not reporting all the electrical usage.
TAKING PICTURES
Just a reminder that Dan Debolt will be around the park taking pictures of your lots to document the grandfathered structures. Please do not be alarmed when you see him snapping photos.
VEHICLE REGISTRATION
Some of you are confused regarding the vehicle registration rules. So let me try to explain in some detail. First, Article IX, Section 5 of our bylaws states “Park models, motor homes, fifth-wheel trailers, travel trailers, or any other types of RVs brought into the park and placed on a site by a member for his/her occupancy must be in good condition and appearance and approved by the Board of Directors. No member shall permit inoperable vehicles to be left on any site unless it is being used as a member’s place of residence. Vehicles and boats should be kept presentable and should indicate that the vehicle/boat is in use and not abandoned. The Board of Directors shall have all other inoperable vehicles towed at the owner’s expense.”
Based on that bylaw requirement, we included verification of current registration in our recent park inspection. Members who have vehicles (including boats) that are not currently registered will have 30 days to get them registered to comply with the bylaw cited above.
The county rules not only cover our bylaw, but specifically say in Pacific County Board of County Commissioners Ordinance 184, Section 21, Subsection C (3.): 3: “The parking and storage of unlicensed vehicles, including but not limited to, RV’s, trailers, automobiles, trucks, etc., is prohibited…” Technically, the county could require that all RV’s be licensed but in our negotiations with them last year, we were able to get them to agree not to require current license on any permanently sited RV if it is the first RV on the lot. Note: While the Department of Motor Vehicles rules do not require licensing of vehicles as long as they stay on private land and are not on the roadways, Safari is an RV Park and not private land. So Ordinance 184 applies to us. I hope that the above information clears up any question as to the legal basis for the requirement. Please note that Safari is not enforcing the county code here because we do not have that authority. We are notifying you of it as a courtesy now since we know that it will be inspected during our annual county inspection by their code enforcement staff.
